High-resolution CCDs from Sharp provide better viewing for security cameras
With 1.3 MP resolution, the new CCD sensors for security cameras provide extremely sharp surveillance pictures that, thanks to progressive scan technology, can be fed into IP-based security networks as digital images.
With the introduction of the new high-resolution CCD sensor for security cameras, Sharp has significantly raised the bar for high-performance imaging devices. The new RJ33J3AA0DT image sensor provides a resolution of 1.3 megapixels and is therefore at the top of the range in terms of image sharpness for CCD sensors for security cameras. This means that the new CCD sensor is particularly suitable for cameras at airports, railway stations and other extremely busy places where it is vital to digitally zoom in on individual sections of the panoramic shot as required, in order to show details such as faces in sharp definition. Conventional CCD sensors with a resolution of only 0.27 or 0.32 MP quickly reach their limits in terms of digital enlargement of image details.
Amongst other things, the high image reproduction quality of the new CCD sensor is based on its high sensitivity. At 400 mV, this lies at the upper end of the scale for CCD security sensors of the megapixel class. Furthermore, the low smear factor of only -105 dB provides clear images, particularly under difficult lighting conditions. It largely eliminates smear effects caused by intensive light, e.g. from spotlights at night. The integrated blooming suppression also plays a crucial role here.
Thanks to progressive scan technology, the RJ33J3AA0DT also provides sharp images with flowing movements of rapidly moving objects. At full resolution of 1.3 million pixels, the sensor can capture 22 frames per second. In the 4 pixel mixing VGA mode, the recording speed is even as high as 30 frames per second. A further advantage of the progressive scan recording technology is that the images can either be fed directly into computer-supported TCP/IP-based networks or processed by analogue systems.
At a price that is only slightly higher for three times as high a resolution compared to conventional CCD sensors, the RJ33J3AA0DT is a great-value introductory product in the HD class of surveillance systems.
